Statement of the jury

There are not many design companies that are able celebrate their 100th birthday – and there is now only one »carrozzeria« (body shop), which has been independent for over a century, and still is, and which has surprised and excited the vehicle industry for the last 100 years with more than 450 extraordinary creations for 45 vehicle manufacturers. Atelier Zagato, headquartered in Rho near Milan, has created these fascinating car bodies in a world that appreciates individuality but prefers to rely on mass production. Included among these are cult cars such as the various Alfa Romeo 6C and 8C models, or the legendary Aston Martin DB 4 GT Zagato. Under the leadership of Dr. Andrea Zagato, the Atelier Zagato has once again become a permanent fixture in the design world – we have him to thank for models such as the Alfa Romeo S.Z / R.Z., the Lamborghini Raptor, the Ferrari 575/599 GTZ model, the Ferrari Nebbio, the Bentley GTZ, the Aston Martin V12 Zagato and the brand new Isorivolta GTZ. The German Design Council congratulates this Italian institution on its 100th birthday.
